One Thing You Could Do If Your Website Was Failing

Ok, so you have spent a lot of time, invested a lot of money into your website and it is still not profitable. The strange thing is that you are receiving a lot of traffic and yet you are not profitable. What should you do now?
What is the secret, the one some call the dirty little secret, related to internet marketing /business? You know, the one that you hear about but most seem to ignore or simply don’t want to hear about. Basically, no matter what you do, there are some internet businesses that are not going to be profitable. The reasons can vary however you will note that with these unprofitable businesses, all the traffic in the universe may not help. So this brings up an interesting question.
Do you believe that every business should have its own website? I think so. Do you think that every business should market the heck out of their website? Probably not. The one question that everyone should have considered at the planning stage of building their website, should it be passive or active? Passive websites are created mainly for the online presence. Think of it as an online business card. Active websites are the ones that are designed with profitability in mind.
For example, a website that is created for a musician, typically is passive. People generally don’t search for random music. They would probably search by the musicians name or song. In this case, marketing a website is probably not the best approach. A better approach would involve setting up a website emphasizing the artist's name and providing samples of his/her music. If you really wanted to be proactive then you would probably have it listed on Amazon or iTunes.
Regardless of the path chosen, nothing is worse than a website that is failing. Despite best efforts, there seems to be no way of making a profit. It could simply be that Google offers a service similar to yours or simply that people are not buying online what you are selling. Despite it all, there is one option that you could consider.
You could consider repositioning your website. What if, instead of attempting to sell a product or service, you convert your website to an information site. Drop the sales pitch and offer basic, useful information. You may find that with this approach, your website becomes more useful and people begin using and returning for the great information. If you can turn your site into a credible source for valuable information then you have a great opportunity.
Once your site has been converted to an information site, and you have decent traffic, traffic from loyal visitors and the search engines, then you could try to make money from it. Google Adsense is the first thing that comes to mind. Google Adsense is a program whereby ads are place on your site. When your visitors click on these ads, you are paid by Google. Just think, with a couple thousand visitors a day, you could easily make good money.
Point is, you really don’t have to live with a site that is performing poorly. Consider a salvage operation first. Information sites with great content and decent traffic do really well. Over time you should be able to easily make back your investment.
