Make a free website? Things to consider.
Make a free website. Does the sound of the word free…excite you? Does it cause you to do laps around the office?
Well, just in case you didn't know, you can now also make free websites. The question that we've always asked when it came to the premium website hosts were, are they worth it? We wouldn't normally associate that question with free websites, I mean, they are free! However, upon closer examination it is easy to see that we probably should.
If you just want to make a free website. One that would only be used by family and friends, a free website host is great. However, if you are looking to build a business, you need to make sure that your website host is reliable and your site looks professional.
We've all heard the saying "nothing in life is free". Well neither is a free website host service. Did you ever wonder how they provided a service for free when there were no paying customers?
The true cost? Website hosts where you make a free website.
1. Some free website hosting companies make money by placing their ads on your website. Their banners/ads are added to your content. I don't know about you but I don't really like this idea.
2. You don't own your domain name. You are issued a sub domain name
of
your website host. Why is this problem?
a. Owning your own domain
name means that your web address will always be the same. If you
decide to move to a different hosting provider, pack up that name and
take it with you. A free website domain name could be here
today, gone tomorrow. If you move to another address, you will
need another domain name. If they go out of business so do you.
b. With a free website host,
your name will look something like
(Yourname.freewebsite.com). You will have a much better chance
of
being found on the web when your name isn't embedded within your free
website host's name.
c. Having your own domain
name, well it just looks more professional.
3. Free websites don't always allow FTP, there is sometimes no email
service and forums can be nonexistent all together.
4. Free websites tend to be slower. The more popular a particular
free website is in general, the more noticeable the speed issue becomes.
5. You will be limited in terms of uploads to your website. Once
you are hooked and can't do without extra capacity, you could be strong
armed into buying services.
6. Free websites generally offer no or very little customer
support. When they do it is usually low priority.
Now, when you make a free website you do own the content but that is
about
it. If you decide to pack up and start all over someplace else,
forget your customers because they won't know how to find you.
Finally, no matter where you choose to make a website free, it should
also be a place where you can also grow.
