Keywords and Your Adsense Campaign

As we all know by now, there is nothing more important to a website's success and its Adsense campaign than interesting, informative content. Not only does your content need to posses these and other qualities, but it must also be structured in such a way so that it is easy to locate and place relevant ads on it. This is where your keywords come in to play. This article is meant to provide just a little food for thought; keywords and the importance that they play in your website and in maximizing your income using Adsense.
The keywords you select have a direct correlation with your website's Adsense success. Your site is crawled by search engine bots for its content. This content is scanned and indexed. It is the keywords that are found within your content that is used to find relevant ads for your website.
When developing your website you have to remember to incorporate keywords within your content. Not too many though, you don't want your content labeled as spam. Many people use a standard keyword density of between four and ten percent. As a general rule of thumb, I shoot for about 1 keyword per every 100 words of content. It can be more, it can be less, use your judgment. Remember your content is created mainly for your readers not the bots. Content should be interesting and readable.
Obviously not all keywords weigh or pay the same. Where ever possible, your goal should be to structure your content around keywords with a high payout. Now I'm not suggesting that you pick any old set of keywords as long as they pay well. The keywords that you choose should be related to your niche.
One other thing to note, your competition for the highest paying keywords in most niche markets is usually fierce. You may find that you are losing out to larger competitors in certain cases but it never hurts to try.
One strategy that might take a little more work but is worth it involves creating content based on both lower and higher paying keywords. Think about it, you may not receive a lot of traffic for the higher paying keywords but you are bound to drive traffic to your site based upon the lower paying keywords. Once you have attacted visitors, there is a good possibility that they will do a little roaming, possibly finding those pages with higher paying keywords. This is a great win/ win situation. It has the potential for increasing pages views for the entire website.
Researching your keywords can be pretty simple. Although I use several paid tools, there are several free tools such as Google's Keyword Tool. If you decide to use the free tools, dont expect too much detail. Although the free tools are decent, you get what you pay for.
Final Note: Your Adsense revenue depends on both your content and the keywords embedded therein. The more popular the keywords the higher the payout, the better your odds of making money but also the more competitive it will be.
Too much to think about? Just create great content based on a topic that you enjoy and it should all work itself out. Enough talk; let's get back to building that website. Good luck.
