Increase website traffic- 10 items to start on today
Link building is very tedious and boring but it has to be done. There is no way around it. When you think about it, it really does make sense.
The following link building strategies when combined are guaranteed to more than double your traffic.
1. External Link exchange – In determining website rank, Google uses a measure of the number of websites linking to yours. The more popular a website, the more people that tend to link to it. The more people that link to it, the more authoritative it becomes.
So, I recommend that you search for non competitive websites.
Websites
that are in a related category as yours but non competing. Contact the
owners about the possibility of a link exchange. A link to your
website
in exchange for a link to mine. If you have great original
content many
will oblige.
a.Once you have found a few partners, create the
exact link that you want used, linking to your website. This step
is
important; you want to create links to your website which have the
appropriate anchor text within it. Provide your partner with
links and
anchor text containing your keywords.
If you are creating a link back to a page that has the keyword “best coffee”, make sure the link that you provide has “best coffee” as anchor text. This will help your site rank better for these words. i.e.… href=”http://yourdomain.com”>best coffee
One final note here. Be very selective with your links. You don’t want to just link to any site. You need quality links. They should be from a website that is related to yours.
They should also be from a website that is in good standing and has a good page rank itself. Your visitors may not notice bad links, but the search engine spiders will.
2. Purchase banner ads on non-competing websites – Although this may cost you a little cash, it will help to increase website traffic while at the same time building brand.
3. Create a RSS feed- An RSS feed allows those that are interested in your content, a way of staying in touch. Any time there is an update or new information on your website, subscribers will be informed via the RSS feed. No email is required and subscribers don’t have to check your website every day for new content. Don’t miss out on this one.
4. Get listed at the Web directories Yahoo and DMOZ. This one is very important if you want to increase website traffic. Google considers links from either of these directories high value. Yahoo will cost you a little bit for this service. $299 to be exact. Before submitting, make sure your website is top notch.
The $299 does not guarantee that your website will be listed. DMOZ on the other hand is free. It does not currently charge but it takes a long time to get listed. In both cases make sure you review the guidelines for directory listing before you submit your website.
5. Create a Facebook or Twitter fan page - One of the best ways to obtain exposure/increase website traffic is by networking. Of course you could always encourage family and friends to visit your website. However by developing a new network, you can spread the word of mouth further and faster.
6. Use YouTube to promote your site- YouTube is a great way to get the word out about your product/website. If you are not great at creating videos no worries, ask a friend of hire someone.
7. Create a blog- Creating a blog that is related to your website provides excellent feedback in terms of website’s topic. Visitors communicate/post their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and concerns. You will find that you will come across a lot of great/information, suggestions etc.. many of which can be used to make your increase website traffic.
8. Submit to the Cool Site of the day website. Websites receiving a mention here have been known to increase website traffic for months.
9. Create a press release. Press releases are another great way of getting the word out. They announce to the world what your website has to offer.
10. Leave your links EVERYWHERE. Write it on the outside of outgoing mail, bulletins boards in cafeteria, bumper stickers...get creative. The more creative you are the more people will remember seeing it.
Final note: no matter which of this items you eventually choose to use, remember…patience. Most strategies take time. You will experience periods where you increase website traffic, and those where there are slight declines. Don't panic.
Your strategy is long term. Just remember to persevere. You will achieve your goal of sustainable, increasing website traffic.
