Google Adsense - The Beginner’s Guide
What is it?
Google AdSense is a contextual advertising solution offered by Google Inc. It enables web publishers to monetize their websites and blogs by displaying targeted ads. A web publisher, irrespective of his geographical location, can make money with AdSense as long as he has a content rich website or web blog.
How do you get started?
If you have a website or a blog, you can apply for a Google AdSense account. Google will review your site and if it meets their criteria, approve it immediately. You will be given JavaScript ad code. Add this code to your site. Your website should begin to display ads very soon after.
How do you make money?
With Google AdSense, you display highly targeted ads
relevant
to your website’s content. Google determines which ads to place
on your site so you don't need to worry about this. When people
click these ads, you get
paid.
How much you are paid for each click depends on various factors. Usually, extremely popular niches like travel, health, business, and entertainment pay the most.
Is AdSense meant for websites only?
No. Google AdSense is a lot more flexible. You can display ads in feeds, site search pages, mobile web pages, parked domains, online games, and videos.
How can you make the most of AdSense?
First, you need to make sure that your site contains quality
content. The ads that are placed on your site are determined by
this content. Google attempts to match advertiser's ads with
your site’s content.
There are instances when ads do not match your sites
content. If your content is well defined, it could simply be that
there are no ads related to your subject matter. Not to fear, ads
that do not match your site’s
content can be removed or blocked.
How to maximize AdSense?
1. First and foremost, make sure your website has
valuable content that is easy to
read, compelling, and informative.
2. Next, you need traffic. Hold off on
adding Google AdSense to you site until you have at least 50 unique
visitors per day. Start promoting your
site. There are a number of ways to generate free traffic – right
from online advertising to free article
marketing. Use these techniques to increase the number of
visitors to your website.
Although the CTR (Click through rate) will vary by industry, it is
the keyword selection and the overall content that will drive your
profits.
Make sure that your web pages are keyword laced and content focused.
You want to use as many keywords as possible while remaining mindful
of your keyword density.
Utilize additional keywords only when doing so makes sense and is readable. If you are unsure of which additional keywords to add, revisit The Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Query the main keywords of your page. This should return a list of related long tail keywords. Use these additional keywords when developing your content.
3. Try targeting different sections of your website. Focus on those that are likely to interest your visitors.
4. Make sure that your ads are strategically
placed. As no two websites are the same, you will probably need
to experiment with placement until
you achieve success. Change ad locations periodically, we want to
maximize your CTR.
Review the map below. It is a Google AdSense map/guide:
The sections in orange are the ones you
should focus on.
These areas are most likely to catch a visitor's
attention and get the click.
In addition to location, you also need to
choose the right ad format. Your ad format (text colors etc...)
should blend in with your site’s overall
theme and design.
You are allowed to customize contextual ads so that they match your website’s look and feel perfectly. Make sure you visit the Google AdSense Website
to ensure that this is done properly and in accordance with their
guidelines.
How do you get paid?
Depending on your location, Google pays you by check, EFT
(electronic funds transfer), Western Union, or Rapida. In order
to get paid, you need to have at least $100 in your Google AdSense
account.
Enjoy the profits.
