Ebay EPN, How to Get Accepted
Ebay EPN (Ebay Partner Network) and affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing in general has become both lucrative and popular on the Internet. Simply speaking, it is just a type of marketing that drives traffic to other sites in exchange for a per-click fee or a commission.
Affiliate programs allow you to sell just about anything, without
having to deal with products, sign-ups, or collecting payments from
customers—all you do is send traffic to your affiliate companies, and
they send you a payment once a month.
It sounds deceptively simple, but in fact, affiliate marketing requires a lot of attention and careful marketing. It also requires care in selecting the right affiliate program. You’ll have a better chance of success if you’re trying to drive traffic to a site that is already known, such as Ebay—and that’s why the eBay Partner Network has become so popular.
With the EBay Partner Network, you can earn a pretty decent second income just by driving traffic to Ebay and Ebay partner sites.
Like most affiliate programs, there is an application and acceptance process. Some affiliate programs are very easy to get into—all you need to do is send in your email address and the URL of your site, and you’re in. But just because it’s easy to join, doesn’t mean it will be easy to make money—Ebay EPN is a little more difficult to join, but the rewards are potentially much greater.
For some the road to acceptance is very easy. For countless others, it is very hard. I fell in to the latter. Fortunately, after creating two different web sites, months of tweaking and submissions, I have finally received my acceptance letter.
It was truly a difficult process. I often wondered what I was doing wrong. So, now that the pain is over, I thought that I’d add this article to encourage others. To help if I can.
No, I am not an expert in gaining acceptance into the Ebay EPN program, however I do have some experience with the process and it may or may not be of some use to you.
Ebay EPN – Steps to Getting Accepted
1. The first and most important aspect related to getting accepted into Ebay EPN, your approach. Meaning, are you serious, are you building a real business?
In some affiliate programs, affiliate marketers simply pick a program, join it, and then build a web site (or several web sites) around the product being offered. In other words, they join the program before they have an established web site. More increasingly today, this approach, especially with the more established programs is being met with little success. High-profile affiliate programs, and most notably Ebay EPN, wants affiliates that have already established content, good traffic, and regular readers.
a. In terms of articles, I recommend at least 25 pages of original content. Your content should be evenly distributed throughout your site. I should not be able to discern upon first glance how many pages of real content that a site has.
b. Season your website before you apply. Your site should be at least three months old and it should have traffic. Repeat, before attempting to apply, build up your site first. Try to shoot for a good Google page ranking and or listing. Your site must be at least indexed. This will show eBay that your web site has legs.
c. Ebay wants affiliates that will add value to their program. Approach your web site’s building initiative with their needs in mind. Put yourself on the other side of the fence. Ask yourself would you approve the web site that you are applying with.
2. Create a web site that is relevant and meaningful. Link farms, or web pages that exist solely to game the search engines and re-direct traffic, won’t cut it in this affiliate program, and you won’t be accepted on that basis. A perfect example of a site that would be of interest to the Ebay Epn affiliate program is a niche site that specializes in a particular interest or product line and that offers useful information about that niche area. This sort of niche lends itself well to Ebay ads.
Note: It is ok to have reviews on your site. However, your site should not be entirely reviews. Remember, it should be a site that adds value for both Ebay and your visitor.
3. This next item is going to be painful. Remove all ads. That includes Google Adsense. I can’t tell you how painful it was having a site that wasn’t making money while I waited for approval. I guess it really depends on how badly you want it though.
a. Some people suggest that you remove Ebay related items also. Personally, I kept the Ebay code on my site so that they could see how and where I intended to place ads. Obviously, I couldn’t make any money without an account but I wanted them to see that I was serious.
4. There is some debate over whether buying an aged domain really helps any more. Ebay checks the history of your web site. I started a brand new site with a brand new domain. Your site’s history is important and easy to research.
5. Apply to the program with a professional email account. You should have an email on your website which allows customers to reach you. i.e. bob@yourwebsite.com (contact page) Use this account. Try to avoid using Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo accounts.
6. Your personal information should be accurate
a. supply an accurate phone number and address
b. Don’t use a P.O.Box.
c. If your website is listed under private ownership, updated it. Whois directory listings should show the true owner. It should agree with your application in terms of ownership. The Ebay EPn may consider it shady if you are hiding that info.
7. Your IP address should match your application stated address.
8. Business information
a. If you applying as an individual, use your full name as the Company name.
b. Business description. Remember, you are applying for an affiliate account. Use this as an opportunity to sell your site. Try to squeeze in how you plan to drive traffic to your site.
9. As mentioned above, make sure that you have a “contact me” page. If possible it should show the same email to visitors that you are using to apply to the program with.
10. Very Important! Don’t forget to add a Privacy Policy page.
Finally, make sure that you have read the EBay Epn agreements.
1. eBay Partner Network Agreement
2. ePN Code of Conduct
3. eBay Partner Network Privacy Policy
These are the steps that stick out in my mind the most. Remember to submit feedback. That way we can helps others.
